New York, a place that always leading non-stop interest to many people, the power of New York does not come from buildings or sightseeing spots, but it comes from the people live in New York, so called “NewYorkers”, the immigrants, and the tourists who created the whole New York atmosphere and energy.
After the series of terrorist attack on September 11th in 2001, I, a photographer Junichi Takahashi has started seeing New York in Black-and-White. However, New York has gradually recovering its energy from its darkest days. Two years later, Takahashi has begun to photograph the unique indication of the “never-changed” side of New York and the “changed” side of New York. He also captured the energy that people finally arrived to the skyscrapers that shadowed with the sad loss of Word Trade Center.
He photographs people’s sign, smell, atmosphere, time, and place. Even if the scenery is the photograph topic, he might not be taking any scenery. It is like seeing a black-and-white world with scooped up delicate details that blended into an ordinary scene, an image that left behind the back of the retina…. It seems to have captured time, memory and indication.
